Dutch 1/10th Nationals round 4 at the famous Mach track.

Saturday was a very mixed conditions day as it started with rain .. dried up in the afternoon .. followed by rain at 4 pm and dry conditions at 4:15 pm.
Getting a good setup was difficult as the mixed conditions kept changing the level of grip on the track.

Sunday was promising to be a very good day for racing as the temperatures were estimated at around 25 degrees Celsius.
When qualifying started I tried to give it my all which set me with a respectable time.

Q1
Rang   Rijder  Rnd   Besttijd [3]  Heat
1   Pedro Rombouts  3   0:48.840  1
2   Arco de Jong  3   0:49.403  1
3   Remy Möller  3   0:49.438  1

When Q2 started the grip was higher but the higher temperature meant it would be hard to improve.
The increased grip levels meant that the lap times didn't improve by much but more consistent lap times were driven.

Q2
Rang   Rijder  Rnd   Besttijd [3]  Heat
1   Pedro Rombouts  3   0:48.488  2 [1]
2   Rik Prins  3   0:49.199  2 [1]
3   Arco de Jong  3   0:49.384  2 [1]

I was sure I wasn't able to improve on Q3 so decided to test out the tyres I might be using in the final.
So the results remained the same and I could make everything ready for the final.

The final started well and I was still 3rd after the start.
After 2 laps someone clipped the back of my car and I had to move from place 8th back up.
Lucky for me there was another incident a few laps further in the race and I was able to profit from it reclaiming 3rd position.
After that I had to push hard to catch up to the 2 in front of me.
After about halfway Pedro had to stop and go for bad refueling.
And Maxim Claes who was leading at that time was suffering from what we suspect is battery failure.
So I was leading the race from about half-way the race.
During that time I was fighting with Rik Prins for my position.
We started the duel for position from 2 minutes in the race and lasted the entire 28 minutes remaining.
Eventually I could force him into a few mistakes making it a bit easier to remain driving on my badly worn tyres.
We crossed the line with only 0.3s difference.

3rd race for the Luxemburgish championship:

It was a sunny and hot Sunday so that for the most people the first qualification was there best one.

After the qualification it was serpent driver Dirk Richards who took the pole in front of the Montonicas from Tom Maquel and Patrick Beltrallo. Tom Smolderen with his brand new Serpent 966 started from 4th.

After the start of the final it looks like an easy start finish victory for Richards but after 5 minutes with a half lap in front of Beltrallo and Maquel he was doing a mistake due to some interferences. The lead changes and Beltrallo / Maquel took the 1-2 spot with a half lap in front of the rest of the field. Tom Smolderen also has some problems with his new car and tried to fight back into the race after some minutes of a forced stop.

After 10minutes Beltrallo let pas the very fast (but 10laps down) Tom Smolderen and took a large corner, on acceleration due to some dirt on his rear tires the car went to the left and hit the pit wall where he break his rear suspension . now it was Tom Maquel  on the lead with Dirk Richards  just 20meters behind ..

Some minutes later Dirk was close to Toms car who was fighting for not let him pass. Tom entered to refuel and Dirk tried  to stay a little bit longer to have a little gap before refueling … This tactic was wrong and so Dirk flame out on his lap to the pits witch coast him the chance of the win ..

Driving the new Mugen MRX-5, a car he was responsible for designing, Robert Pietsch has finally claimed his first big title winning the EFRA 1:8 Onroad European Championship at Locorotondo in Italy today. Starting from pole position the German led the 45-minute final from start to finish. The only driver to follow him closely was Motonica’s Dario Balestri who finished half a lap behind the 2008 World Championship Top Qualifier. The majority of the drivers were on a 3.5 minute fuel stop strategy with one tire change at the race’s mid point. Only Alberto Picco was pitting longer running just over 4 minutes but his chances of victory ended when half way through a glowplug let go costing the Italian a lot of time. Current World Champion Lamberto Collari had to settle for third on the podium after he was forced to do an extra pit stop due to a damaged tyre on his Kyosho. Apart from Pietsch and Balestri, all the drivers were forced to make unscheduled pitstops as they hit problems.
